In the last 10 or so years, the diet industry has pushed consumers to choose a dietary theory camp. You have to be paleo, vegan, raw, vegetarian, or gluten-free—or whatever diet-of-the-year happens to be on trend. Truth: Some fad diets work for people, and most do not. If you’ve ever had a friend who went paleo, vegan, or “just-eat-a-grapefruit-for-breakfast” (or, fill in the blank ____ ) and lost 10 pounds, then you tried it but gained 10 pounds, don’t fret. It’s not you. It’s the media.
You have to find the best way of eating for you. While it may fit into one of these dietary theory camps, it might not. You can pull from many different ideas—Vegi-Mediteranean-Paleo—and create your own eating style that helps you feel and look your best. Not only that, your body is always changing. Humans are cyclical beings, day to day, week to week, year to year. You might find you want more cooked food in the winter and cooling raw foods during warmer months. Perhaps more vegetarian during some seasons and meat in others.
